What happens when we receive salvation?
We receive salvation in Christ through repentance and faith. This means turning away from sinful ways (repentance) and turning to God (faith), trusting in Christ. Jesus will forgive your sins and set you on a path to life with Him. We cannot earn this right, it is His free gift.

But just because you believe you are saved does not mean you actually are. We can fool ourselves very easily into thinking we have salvation when we truly do not. In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus warned us that there will be people who think they are saved but really are not:
