The most basic Digital Command Control (DCC) system consists of several parts: a throttle, a command station, a booster, a decoder, and a power supply to run it all. Most systems also use a throttle network which allows multiple throttles to talk to the command station.
Can I run a DCC train on a DC track?
Many DCC locos are unable to run in DC because they do not have a dual mode decoder, however most now are equipped with dual mode decoders. Also, DCC locos usually (not always) will not run as well as they do on DCC.
Can you run DCC on analogue?
A: Yes! DCC fitted models will run on analogue, however may be a little slower to respond. The opposite is not true, however, and we do not recommend running analogue locomotives on a digital layout as this can cause internal damage to your locomotive.
What gauge wire do I need for model railway?
If you have a small layout, you can choose a wire gauge with a 1.29mm diameter. This will be the optimal size for the model train layout. On the other hand, you can choose a wire gauge with 1.62mm, if the layout is medium size. However, if the layout has a long track run, you can use a 2.5mm wire gauge.

Most current offerings are either DCC-ready and will accept a drop-in decoder that connects to a standard plug or directly replaces the existing lighting circuit board.
