Who founded McHenry County?
After the native Americans, the first settlers who migrated to McHenry County was the Samuel Gillilan family. Mr. Gillilan with his wife Margaret and children arrived on November 18, 1834, and established a home in Algonquin Township along the West side of the Fox River between Cary and Algonquin in Section 23.
Can I swim in Crystal Lake?
Swimming in Crystal Lake is only permitted in the designated swim zone indicated by the buoys. Swimmers that successfully pass the test will be given a deep end wristband each time they enter the facility. Swimmers may attempt the test as many times needed each summer, but only once per day.
