Are all hitch pins the same?
There are two types of hitch pins, Threaded or Smooth, available in standard or locking. Threaded hitch pins are the same size (1/2” x 13 Threads Per Inch) for 1-1/4” and 2” receiver racks. They are available in standard (provided with the rack) or locking (available from our website).
Can you use a bolt instead of a hitch pin?
No. The pins are softer and will tolerate the shock load of a hitch. A grade 8 bolt is much harder and will not tolerate shock loads and will crack and break over time. Also, since it is harder than the receiver, it will egg out the hole more rapidly than softer pin.
