What is an IA? Individual Augmentees (IAs) are Sailors who support or “augment” another Navy, Marine Corps or Army command. Sailors usually go to their IA assignment on temporary or TAD orders and return to their current or “parent” command once they complete their assignment.

The unit dwell time waiver approved by the Secretary of Defense satisfies the waiver requirement for Soldiers in this category, and individual waivers are not required. For example, the Secretary of Defense approves waiving the 12-month dwell time for the unit and deploys the unit with 10 months of dwell time.
How short can a deployment be?
Sailors deployed without a ship or a sub may go for as little as 30 days or for more than a year.

What is a noble eagle number?
NE stands for Noble Eagle and is a tracking number applied to a specific billet in support of a specific mission. Your NE number can be found in your orders following the itinerary and resembles NE-1234-1234. This number is used to track both the billet and the individual assigned to the billet.
