Which is better 3 Link or 4 Link?
Having a steering gear box means you’ll want to use a 3 Link with Track Bar, having a hydraulic steering system means you’ll want to use a Triangulated 4 link. If you are running a steering gearbox a front track bar is an unavoidable necessity.
What does 3 link suspension mean?
Basically, a three-link with a panhard bar (aka track bar) uses a total of four links to confine and control the location and movement of the axle under the vehicle. Typically there are two links that connect each end of the axle tube to points on the frame rails.
How does link suspension work?
Each bar is mounted on joints at both ends and is free to move vertically with the suspension travel – but nowhere else unless the arms themselves become bent or broken. A multi-link design, usually with four or five arms, known as links, allows an independently-sprung wheel to combine both ride quality and handling.
What suspension is best for racing?
The best front shock absorbers are the ones from the leaders in suspension.
- Bilstein B8 5100 Series Shock Absorbers.
- Skyjacker Hydro 7000 Shock Absorbers.
- Rancho RS9000XL Series Shock.
- Bilstein B6 Performance Shock Absorbers.
- Skyjacker Nitro 8000 Shock Absorbers.
- Eibach Pro-Truck Shocks.
- Fabtech FTS Shock Absorbers.
What is suspension tuning?
Suspension tuning can involve the modification of springs, struts and shock absorbers to affect how a vehicle accelerates, brakes and corners. There are different stages within the cylinder of a strut for varying degrees of durability and performance.
What’s a panhard bar do?
What Does a Panhard Bar Do? A Panhard bar stabilizes the rear axle of a vehicle, allowing the rear wheels to move up and down, but not laterally (left to right). By restricting left-to-right movement, the wheels are better aligned with the driveshaft and center of the vehicle.
Do you need a track bar with 4 link?
There is no need for a separate lateral locating device. Conversely, with a parallel style 4-link, all bars are parallel to each other and the vehicle centerline. A “Panhard bar” or other separate device is required to keep the axle centered.
What is the advantage of multi-link suspension?
A multi-link suspension allows the vehicle to flex more; this means simply that the suspension is able to move more easily to conform to the varying angles of off-road driving. Multi-link-equipped vehicles are ideally suited for sports such as desert racing.
Which is better multilink vs torsion beam?
Because there are fewer parts, the torsion beam setup is generally more durable than a multi-link setup. It also requires fewer bushings. Down the road, fewer wear and tear components will need to be replaced.
What is a 3 link suspension system?
This suspension system has all 3 links running parallel to each other. This kind of suspension always has some kind of panhard bar to keep the axle centered. The 3 link is designed to keep the rear axle centered, and to keep the pinion angle from changing (keep the axle from rotating).
How do I choose the right links for my suspension?
You want to make sure each link gets one right hand and one left hand end. To start, you will need to know the exact desired length of each assembled link. In my particular case, the suspension was designed to use links that are exactly 28 inches from pivot to pivot.
What type of suspension links does Speedway offer?
Speedway offers a multitude of options for different types of suspension links. For my car I chose to create my own heavy duty chromoly links using Speedway components. I used Speedways ¾”-16 weld-in bungs both right hand #910-02965, and left hand #910-02966. These bungs are design to fit a tube with an inner diameter of one inch.
How do you set up a three link set up?
You can arrange your three link set up for over steer or under steer through chassis roll. Experienced crew chiefs use the three link set up as part of their set up package. I recommend running the top link with a fair amount of anti-squat built into the adjustment and a downhill angle of around 4 to 7 degrees.
