How does Framo pump works?
The cargo pump has a built-in hydraulic motor connected to the impeller by a short independent shaft. Motor, shaft and bearings are lubricated and cooled by the hydraulic driving oil. The pump impeller rotates and acts as a non-return valve to prevent cargo from returning back to tank.
What is the difference between Framo pump and centrifugal pump?
In steam turbine centrifugal pumps, this energy is provided by steam. For electric pumps, electric motor provides this energy for rotating the impeller. In FRAMO system, this energy is provided by the Hydraulic motor using the pressurised hydraulic oil.
What kind of pump is Framo?
single-stage centrifugal pump
The Framo cargo pump is a vertical single-stage centrifugal pump powered by a hydraulic motor for safe and efficient operation. All of our cargo pumps are made in stainless steel and designed with a smooth and easy-to-clean surface featuring a limited number of flanges for a superior ability to pump any liquid.
How do you use a portable Framo pump?
Start the portable pump by turning the handwheel on the starting head antiC clockwice. Discharge capacity will increase if the back pressure is reduced to a minimum. If possible use the portable pump to transfer the cargo to another cargo tank and discharge the cargo ashore with the main cargo pump.
How vacuum drain is done in Framo pump?
The vacuum drain line is equipped with a nozzle. The nozzle mixes the remaining liquid in the drain line with the internal tank atmosphere. This will reduce the weight of the liquid column. Consequently, the remaining liquid column can be emptied by means of a “vacuum” system on deck.
What is the most important check to do on a framo submerged cargo pump and why?
Purging of the cofferdam is one of the most important operations to be done when operating a submerged Framo Cargo Pump. This is because the only way to check the pumpTs seals, and thus the conditions of the pumps, is by purging possible leakages in the cofferdam.
What is jockey pump in Framo system?
To regulate the oil temperature, a cooling water inlet valve is controlled from the framo control system. To prevent impurities from entering the hydraulic system, the system is also pressurized (2-6 bar) when not in operation. Depending on the installation, this is done by a jockey or feed pump.
Why vacuum drain is there in Framo pump?
For what kind of ships the portable submerged pump is necessary?
chemical ships
Portable submersible pumps, are provided on chemical ships and other specialised liquid cargo carriers, for discharging cargo in the event of a main cargo pump failure. The pumps are usually hydraulically driven and lowered directly into the tank generally through a tank cleaning hatch.
What is the stripping procedure in case of Framo pump?
When the cargo tank is empty, the speed of the cargo pump is reduced to perform the final stripping of tank: Close the cargo valve. Open the small ball valve on the stripping line. Pressurize the pipe stack by connecting the purging hose with compressed air or nitrogen.
When tank cleaning is done run the framo pump at?
approximately 110 bar
6.2 Before tank cleaning is finished, close pump s cargo discharge valve and open stripping valve to allow an increase in water level. Run the pump at approximately 110 bar against closed cargo pump discharge valve for 1-2 minutes to clean the cargo pump.
