A 3.5km (2 mile) circular easy-access walk around Gatton Park in Surrey, a beautiful area of parkland designed by Lancelot Capability Brown, giving you a glimpse into its diverse history. This walk is part of the Explore Surrey collection, published through a collaboration between iFootpath and Surrey County Council.
Are dogs allowed in Gatton Park?
Dogs are welcome but please keep them on leads at all times as livestock are grazing. Benches and a grass picnic area with views of the parkland are on the parterre outside Gatton Hall. Further benches are dotted around the park and gardens. There are great open spaces for family enjoyment.
When was Gatton Hall built?
The original building was an important manor house in 1220 and was also recorded as having a deer park in 1278. Known as Gatton Place, John Aubrey, writing in the ‘History and Antiquities of Surrey’ (Volume iv, pg 217), remarked that there was fine manor house there.

We are open to the public the first Sunday of each month from February to October. Please book in advance on our What’s On page. An exciting green energy project taking place at Gatton will allow the energy for the school’s heating systems to be sourced from the ground and lakes of the park.
