In Russia the first hospice was opened in St. Petersburg in 1992, with the support of the émigré journalist Viktor Zorza, who established Russian links with supporters in the United Kingdom in the wake of the new era of glasnost.
Does the hospice shop take books?
We accept ‘Just the Good Stuff” Items that sell well are clothing, accessories, jewellery, homewares, furniture, bric a brac, antiques and collectables. Other items that our community love buying are books, DVDs and small electrical appliances.

Hospices across the country operate over 125 stores, selling quality second-hand goods to fund the cost of providing palliative care, free of charge, to their local communities. Each hospice shop is managed and run by its local hospice service.

Some people experience a brief surge in energy in the hours or days before death. This may last from a few minutes to several hours. During this time, your loved one may talk more, be interested in engaging in conversation, or interested in eating or drinking.
