Re: Freelander 2 – TD4 vs SD4 Do keep in mind that the SD4 uses a lot less fuel than the TD4. Neither are particularly fugal though, you have to remember it’s a near 2 ton vehicle. The TD4 is more linear but an SD4 will run rings around it. I do agree the 19″ wheels are stupid on this kind of vehicle.

While they may be true, engine performance figures don’t translate well into seat of the pants feeling. The TD4 may be less powerful, but it is no slouch. It has a nice Turbo Diesel punch about it. The SD4, although more powerful on paper feels to me like a bit less willing, almost petrol like characteristics.
Are there any problems with the Freelander 2?
The Freelander 2s have hardly given any problems, unlike their earlier models. The spare shops don’t like them as they basically only sell filters and brake pads for these. It will be interesting to see if you can detect a difference in engine characteristics.
Is the td4/sd4 the same engine as the transit?
I know nowt about the Td4/Sd4, but a 2.5 Tddi Transit engine can be upped from 90Bhp to something like 160Bhp just by re-mapping. The same engine in every single mechanical and physical way except the badge. This is what documentation seems to show at least, I cant find any difference in parts used at all.
