Who can apply for the National Citizen Service programme?
NCS is designed for 16 and 17 year olds. However, you can go on programme as a 15-year-old, as long as you turn 16 on or by 31 August of the year you apply for.

Does NCS look good on CV?
(And hey, just so you know…even though NCS has been different this year and you won’t be able to talk about it in the traditional sense, volunteering and social action (that you can do through Keep Doing Good!) is impressive on your CV, and can give you loads of transferable skills like – teamwork, leadership.
What are the benefits of NCS?
Independent evaluation shows that NCS develops important skills, increases aspirations and wellbeing, mixes people from different backgrounds and increases community involvement. What do you need for NCS?
The centres provide clothing and equipment for all activities (waterproof trousers, jackets, safety gear etc). Electrical sockets may be limited at the centres, so electrical items are discouraged. You will need to bring your own bedding. Plastic cutlery, plate, bowl and mug.

Can you do NCS in year 12?

Smoking is discouraged as part of our programme and isn’t allowed during activity time to ensure sessions run smoothly.
What should I write in my CV for NCS?
Include details of any voluntary work, temporary jobs or work experience with your achievements. Employers love to see passion and proactivity. Highlight hobbies and extra-curricular activities, especially those relevant to the job you’re applying for and demonstrate knowledge of the area.
Do universities care about NCS?
Yes you can speak about how you have fitted in all those extracurriculars whilst studying for A levels but most universities won’t even look at your PS that closely. And if you are aiming for oxbridge they certainly don’t care for NCS and DofE.
How does NCS work?
NCS is a space where young people can become world ready and work ready, and raise their voice to make a positive difference together. Where they can explore who they are and who they want to be, with no fear of judgement or failure.
What do u do on NCS?
Working as part of a team, they have the chance to take part in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, canoeing and abseiling, and to undertake personal and social development. They also design and deliver their own project in their local community, working with other young people to improve the area they live in.
What do you do on the first week of NCS?
WEEK 1: THE PERSONAL CHALLENGE! ACTIVITY: Each day you will be challenged in different ways undertaking activities such as surfing, climbing and coasteering. You will face individual challenges but have the support of team mates to help you overcome any fears you may have.
Do you stay overnight at NCS?
We will run through the roles in detail, what you will be doing, and who you will be doing it with. You will then stay with us overnight.
What should I wear to NCS?
Sturdy shoes, warm jumper, spare clothes Spare trousers, socks and T-shirt are a good idea in case you get wet, and warm clothing to sleep in is super important under canvas.
